Intimate Herbal Steaming is an ancient form of holistic care in which a person allows the warmth of herbal steam to gently permeate the exterior of their genitalia. These sessions are designed with relaxation in mind. A treatment that will revitalize your body, mind, and soul with a calming, therapeutic, invigorating steams. You’ll leave feeling revived, rejuvenated and completely centered. The steam is a natural, holistic approach to detoxing the intimate areas. It is a form of hydrotherapy that infuses herbs into a steam bath which you sit over and as you relax, the mist rises to cleanse your vagina, cervix and uterus via the steam vapors..

Think of it as an herbal sauna for the lower region.

PERISTEAM INTIMATE HYDROTHERAPY? (V-STEAM, YONI STEAM)

Peristeam Intimate Hydrotherapy (also known as a vaginal steam, yoni steam or v-steam) is a non-invasive water based therapy that uses medicinal herbs to help assist in your physical and spiritual wellness. It is an ancient healing modality that has been used throughout the world for centuries as a holistic form of self-care.

HOW DOES A V-STEAM WORK?

The tissues of the genital opening are especially porous and absorbent, and the warmth of the steam works to soften and open them. Often women have painful menstrual cycles due to accumulations of incompletely flushed menstrual fluids encrusted in the membranes of the uterine wall. So you can imagine if you want to clean something really well, you heat it and steam it. The steam combined with the medicinal herbs provides a very healing and comforting effect. When the herbs are placed in hot water, their medicinal properties, including volatile oils, are released and carried to the surface of your skin and to the inside of the genital opening where they are absorbed into the bloodstream, and ultimately into the cervix and uterus.

Most commonly used are herbs used for intimate steaming are:

  • basil (move fluids)

  • rosemary (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-microbial)

  • red raspberry(ease pms symptoms)

  • oregano (antiseptic, antispasmodic, expectorant)

  • calendula (anti-inflammatory)

  • yarrow leaf(anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic)

  • motherwort (tonifies, cramping, infections)

  • red rose petals(anti-bacterial)

  • mugwort (all purpose)

  • marigolds (anti-inflammatory)

  • plantains(antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic)

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM A V-STEAM?

Most everyone who tries it loves it. It’s so comforting, physically and emotionally. During the steam you are in an enclosed room, in a full length steam dress or towel. You will sit on one of our custom, steam chairs that has a cushioned seat with an opening for the steam to do its magic. Each seat is sanitized before and after use and then covered in a freshly cleaned white towel or disposable liner. You will feel a warm steam as if your bottom half is sitting in a sauna. You will smell the fragrant aroma of the herbal medicine fill the room as your body absorbs the healing medicinal oils. You should leave refreshed and reinvigorated. The intimate steaming room can accommodate 2 people at one time. We provide a beverage, headphones to listen to music or affirmations, as well as reading material and a journal. This service can be added to a facial to make a truly amazing spa treatment. Can be added in 15-30 min increments. Some women notice beneficial results with just one treatment, but often a series of treatments is required. Since the herbal steam works to penetrate and dredge out any old tissues and blood that were not properly expunged during menstruation, you may notice some discharge following the steam or changes in your next cycle. These are normal cleansing reactions and a good sign that your womb is cleansing.

DOES STEAMING HURT?

Not at all! Our method of Intimate Steaming is relaxing and gentle. During your session, you will sit on an ergonomically designed Steam Sauna Seat that holds up to 300 lbs. of body weight. The herbs will be placed inside of a steamer and funneled to the chair opening allowing for the proper proximity between the steam and your delicate womb space. It feels like taking a nice, warm, relaxing “steam bath” for your lady parts!

WHO SHOULD NOT STEAM?

There are certain times when it’s not a good idea to steam.

The big one for most of my clients is you don’t want to steam after insemination while you’re trying to conceive and you don’t want to steam during pregnancy. So in general, if you’re trying to conceive don’t steam after ovulation. You can do it after your period during your follicular phase before ovulation.

You also don’t want to steam when there’s fresh blood, so don’t steam on your period.

Avoid steaming if you’re in the middle of an infection, the heat can exacerbate things.

And avoid steaming if you’re prone to spontaneous bleeding at all. You’ll know if that’s you.

Do not steam if…

  • After ovulation when trying to conceive (Two week wait)

  • Pregnancy

  • Any time there is fresh, red blood

  • Current infection

  • Risk of spontaneous bleeding

  • You are under the age of 13 and have not gotten your first period

  • Have had your tubes tied

  • Use certain types of birth control that function by forming thick uterine lining

CAN YOU STEAM WITH AN I.U.D?

It is not recommended for women with any kind of IUD to steam because the medicinal properties of the herbs are intended to cause the uterus to contract and shed its lining. When an IUD is present, the risk is that this could cause the uterine tissue to shed or contract in such a way that it could dislodge, shift or expel the IUD. With that said, some women with IUDs do Steam and have reported great results, including reduced cramps during menstruation. However, Glam and Glow BBS does not advocate for steaming with an IUD, and doing so is at your own risk. You may want to talk to your health care provider for his or her thoughts on this.

DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN “ISSUE” TO GET A STEAM?

No! Every woman should steam regularly as a way to maintain healthy flora (eliminates odor), balance hormones and keep their intimate area tight, strong, and functioning properly.

Possible Hormonal Issues:
If you have hormonal issues you would steam monthly. Also its best to steam around the same time each month. This has claimed to create regularity in your system by promoting homeostasis(stability).

Possible Pathogenic Issues:
If you are prone to have consistent BV, yeast infections, and unrecognizable odors, studies state to steam multiple times per month to bring the issue under control. Most clients plagued with these issues feel relief after 2-4 sessions about a week apart.

Are there any side effects of Yoni Steaming?

Yes, there can be some side effects that you should be aware of.

You may feel the urge to use the bathroom.

Your symptoms may increase at your next period. This is usually a good thing. Don’t let these side effects deter you. They are all signs that your body is cleansing itself. The first period after steaming may be more intense. Usually the second period is better and they continue getting better from then on.

If you tend to have clots during your period, you may see a lot of clots come out after steaming. This is a sign that your body is releasing old residue.

If you tend to see brown or black blood before or after your period, you may see more during your next period after steaming. This is also a sign that your body is releasing old residue.

If you often have painful cramping, this is the same mechanism as during labor. The uterine muscles are contracting to push something out. Cramping could be more intense the period after steaming as your body works to release anything that has built up inside your uterus.

If you tend to have infections, you may feel some itchiness as the bacteria is carried out with your cervical fluid.

If you have past trauma, sexual or otherwise, you may experience an emotional release during steaming.

If your cycle was very long or very short, it may be a different length next cycle. It should be coming closer to a 28-30 day cycle. If it is getting shorter or longer, be sure you’re using the right herbs for your situation.

These are side effects are signs that your body is releasing what it no longer needs.

As always, consult your doctor if you are worried. And be sure any herbs you’ve used are appropriate for your condition and you are not allergic to them.

I recommend steaming regularly for about 3 months to really see how it will help you. These side effects generally don’t last long and you’ll get tons of benefits if you persevere.

I’M NOT SEXUALLY ACTIVE… SHOULD I STILL GET A STEAM?

Absolutely! While Steaming DOES enhance sexual intercourse, it’s not just for sexually active women. Steaming is a natural and safe way to practice self-care and self-love.

How soon can I have intercourse after a yoni steam?
As the medical properties from the herbs enters via your bloodstream and quietly working their magic internally I recommend waiting 24hrs minimum.

Disclaimer, I’m not a doctor, I cannot diagnose you or treat medical conditions, its always a good idea to talk with your doctor if you have any concerns.
